Climbing

  • The Mammoth Lakes area offers world-class cragging and bouldering sites for both sport and traditional climbers, from the volcanic tuff at the base of the Resurgent Dome to the Warming Wall near Canyon Lodge to the Yosemite-style granite Horseshoe Slabs. Beyond, the jagged summits, spires and blue-ice couloirs up and along the backbones of the surrounding wildernesses beckon casual peak baggers and technical alpine climbers alike. A number of accredited outfitters offer guiding and instruction throughout the year. A fee-based climbing wall at Main Lodge provides children with an introduction to the sport.
