Tobacco Flat

  • Above the wall of lateral glacial moraine to the south of Convict Lake is a relatively flat bench of sagebrush plateau, accessible by hiking trail from Convict Lake or by a network of old, rocky 4x4 roads climbing from Mt. Morrison Road off Hwy. 395. Still used occasionally for grazing herds of sheep in summer, the area provides dramatic views over Convict Lake to Laurel Mountain and direct hiking access, up the creek bed, to the southern shoulder of Mt. Morrison.
