  • There are a variety of trails that can be accessed from the Coldwater Trailheads. Set at 9,000 feet in a forest of evergreens above Lake Mary, between the tumbling waters of Coldwater and Mammoth creeks, these popular trailheads offer convenient access to the John Muir Wilderness (via Duck Pass), the Emerald Lake/Sky Meadows and Heart Lake trails, and a quarter-mile self-guided walking tour of the historic Mammoth Consolidated Mine site. Facilities include public toilets, drinking water, picnic tables, and bear-proof food storage. The area is lush with green foliage in summer, evergreens and wildflowers, creating a photogenic landscape and scenic trail experience. Common destinations beyond Duck Pass include Duck Lake, with an intense, deep-blue color, and nearby Purple Lake.
