Mountain View Trail 5.3 mi

  • The Mountain View Trail is part of a network of variable singletrack, four-wheel-drive and OHV trails between the parking area at Minaret Vista and its junction with the Uptown/Downtown mountain bike trails at the Earthquake Fault. The trail can be traveled in either direction, but, because of several sections of soft sand, is most popular as a long, winding descent from Minaret Vista. Dropping from the San Joaquin Ridge down along the boundary of the Owens River Headwaters Wilderness into the pumice-covered Dry Creek drainage, the trail offers unique views northward to the Inyo Craters.

“I climbed this trail from Uptown to Minaret Vista then rode back down. It was about 17 miles. Gradual, but feels steeper because of the altitude. The ride up is fun if you are in shape. The ride down is lots of fun. I was there in July of 2014. The trail is loose pumice. There are roots an berms. Be careful crossing the stream when going down; there are logs. I made the first one but not the next one. My ribs are sore from crashing. Go right over the little bridge instead. There was no water in the stream. Nice views, shady. Some "S" turns. Great trail. Took me about 1:25 to go up and about 40 minutes to go down.”
