Ski Touring from Mill City to McLeod Lake

Do you have Cross Country Skiing Experiences you'd like to share? Find out How!

  • Ski touring from Mill City to McLeod Lake offers a classic, extended winter tour over a wide variety of terrain, both groomed and off-piste, and a perfect introduction to the wonders of the Mammoth Lakes Basin in winter—especially on a sunny day. Starting from the winter road closure at the end of Old Mammoth Road, follow the roadway beneath Mammoth Rock to the junction with the groomed public access corridor on Lake Mary Road. Follow this all the way out to Horseshoe Lake, after which you may find a skintrack to follow, or you can blaze your own. Return the way you came.

Avalanche Forecast for 11/30/2024

  • AVALANCHE FORECAST: Surface instabilities like storm and wind slabs have become increasingly unlikely in the days since our last storm. However, a concerning structure of strong, new storm snow over weak, old facets exists in isolated areas, particularly in the northern half of the forecast area. As you head out into the backcountry, it's worth building in larger terrain margins to account for this uncertainty. Find out More
